On July 1, 2019, St. Matthews By-The-Sea UMC welcomed it’s new pastor, Rev. Mike Hurley.
Pastor Hurley is a Sussex County native from Rehoboth Beach, DE and a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. In 1996 Pastor Hurley was called into the ministry and began the process of becoming a United Methodist Pastor, completing studies at Delaware Technical and Wilmington Colleges in Georgetown, DE and at Wesley Theological Seminary in Dover, DE.
Pastor Hurley is married to his lovely wife, Ann. They share a love of music – singing together and in the Choir here at St. Matthews By-The-Sea.
Pastor Hurley is embracing the daily activities and mission of St. Matthews By-The-Sea UMC and is very excited about possibilities for the future. He has experienced God as a God who loves and goes after lost sheep; believing we, as disciples, should do the same. He believes scripture must be the basis for preaching and teaching; that those who are unwillingly absent need to feel included; that we need to be good managers with Godly vision; and that worship should be exciting.
Together we will strive to love and serve, being the hands and feet of Christ, while teaching, developing, and deepening the relationships of God and His people.
