“In the dark of the mid-night have I oft hid my face,
While the storms howl above me, and there’s no hiding place.
Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe ’til the storm passes by.”
(Mosie Lister; 1958 Lillenas Publishing Co.)
I Love this song. It came to mind yesterday as we got ready for Hurricane turned Tropical Storm, Isaias. In the old ‘Hymns for the Family of God’ Hymnal, it is listed as a hymn for ‘inner peace.’ The second verse goes on to say that Satan whispers to us saying ‘there is no use to try’ and there is ‘no hope by-and-by!’ Hey Christians, don’t believe that mess!! Fear Not!
Second Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” and “… whoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith! We overcome when we believe Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:4-5).
So, Fear Not!! Because, if the Son of God sets you free … you will be free indeed! (John 8:36).
The reality is, storms will come, and troubles, and difficulties, but remember, Jesus has already overcome all that. So, Fear Not! Keep singing!
The third verse says;
When the long night has ended, and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence, on that bright, peaceful shore.
In that land where the tempest never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.
The storm will pass. God will remain with us in the storm, through the storm, and after the storm, for eternity! Yes … Today is a beautiful day!
