Good Wednesday Morning to you! It is another beautiful (cool) day. Do you know that this Wednesday puts us just a few days closer to the third Sunday of Advent? That’s “PINK Advent Sunday!” I love Pink Advent Sunday!
You see, in the early Catholic Church, Advent was patterned after the season of Lent. And of course, in that time, Lent was a call to prayer, and penance, and sacrifices, and abstaining from good things. During those Lenten services, the priests would celebrate Laetare Sunday as a day of Joy. They also began to wear rose-colored vestments in place of the dark purple on that Sunday.
Eventually, the season of Advent was celebrated and one Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, was considered a day of rejoicing. So now we are told, “Rejoice! (Gaudete!) in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).
Later, the four candles were given specific names which we can reflect on as we light them and pray: the first is Hope, the second is Peace, the third is Joy, and the fourth is Love.
[I just can’t help it: I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart! (where?)]
Jesus says, “As the father loves me, I love you. So, remain in my love! Obey me and you will remain in my love.” Jesus then says, “I tell you this so my joy will be in you, and your Joy will be complete! … or filled up!” (John 15:9-11).
The Joy of Jesus in us! That is … His Joy in Us! WOW!!!
Let the Joy of Jesus rule your heart this Wednesday, and Pink Advent Sunday, and every day! Amen.
Many Joyful Blessings,
