Election Day, I spent the morning in our beautiful SMBTS office. When I left to return home, I had the opportunity to drive past a couple of voting stations. They were packed! Cars were parked on both sides of the road causing people to walk on the road to get to their destination. Later, when I got home, Ann and I stopped to pick up her sister Virginia and her husband Mike. We all headed off to vote at Cape Henlopen High School.
When we first pulled into the parking lot we thought, “Not too bad.” Then we saw the line. “Oh, my goodness!!, it’s almost winding around the entire building!” It was then that I had this thought: “These people are here (and all across the fruited plains) because they are simply following their guy!” I asked my self, “Truly, who is your guy!”
I remembered when John the Baptist was questioned by the Priests and Levites from Jerusalem (John 1:19-28). They asked him, “Who are you?” He replied, “I am not the Christ. I am not Messiah. Not a Prophet, I am one voice crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the LORD!” Later, John the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God” (John 1:35). It was then, Andrew and Simon Peter found the Messiah! They followed Jesus.
Folks, we can have political heroes, we can admire others, to some extent we can even follow and learn from good people. But when the rubber hits the road … Honestly, My Guy is Jesus!
As I write this I wonder who won?
