Wednesday’s Word – October 28, 2020

Wednesday’s Word

Top of the Morning to you!  It is for sure another beautiful Wednesday morning!

I’ve been looking at a book called ‘Irish Blessings: A photographic Celebration’.  Every now and then, I love to remember where I come from.  Sometimes it can be a blessing and sometimes it can be rather humbling.  But today, I am doing one of my favorite things.  I am reading some of the many ‘Blessings’ that have been accredited to the Irish; Blessings for the Land, Blessings for the Journey, Blessings for the Home & Hearth, and so on.

Most of us have heard this Blessing:

“May the Road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face and rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand”.

I pray that blessing for all of us, … not so much the following Irish prayer:

“May those who love us, love us.

And those who don’t love us, May God turn their hearts,

And if God doesn’t turn their hearts, May He turn their ankles,

So we may know them by their limping!

No! No! No!   OK, maybe a little humorous, but that will not work!

Let me leave you with this wonderful, thoughtful prayer from St. Patrick who

was a 5th century Irish cleric.  He wrote:

“Christ be with me, Christ be within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me,

Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort me, Christ above me,

Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me,

Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.”

I pray you experience all that God has for you through Jesus Christ His Son on this beautiful Wednesday and every day!

Many Blessings,

Pastor Mike
