“It’s no light thing to know that we will all one day stand in that place of judgement. That is why we work urgently with everyone we meet to get them ready to face God.” … “If I acted crazy, I did it for God; if I acted overly serious, I did it for you. Christ’s love has moved me to such extremes. God’s love has the first and last word in everything we do.”
(2nd Corinthians 5: selected verses The Message)
Did you notice the second sentence? The Apostles Paul was ministering to the new church in Corinth and his bottom line was to get the folks ready to “FACE GOD!” Paul understood he was a servant of the Lord, and to serve the Lord, is to serve the people. His service goal was to love people into God’s kingdom! Now let me say folks, we are all still called to serve the Lord and people.
Service. We hear that word a lot lately. It is a good word. We thank Veterans for their service. We honor first responders; fire, medical, and police. We appreciate people who make sure we are fed, and those who pick-up the trash we leave behind. We celebrate teachers and many more. And I know there are many who tackle these jobs with a heart that is wanting to serve both God and their neighbor. In recent weeks I have been thinking about our character as Christians. And my question is, “So how do we serve?”
I believe we serve by listening to Jesus when he said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
How do we serve? Do something that expresses Love for God and Neighbor!
