“Lead By Example”
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young. Instead, set an example for the believers through your speech, behavior, love, faith, and by being sexually pure.”
1 Timothy 4:12

Last week, I went to my daughter’s school performance and, let me tell you, I was one proud dad! Elizabeth is in kindergarten and it was such a joy to watch her on stage signing and dancing. As I watched her on stage, my eyes filled with tears as she sang “Here Comes the Sun” and danced in a way that shows me how well she retains information when it comes to music, dance
moves, etc. When I began to show others videos I recorded from her performance, some people took note of something. In the video, you can tell that other students are watching Elizabeth as if she were their leader. If students couldn’t remember what move to do next, they watched
Elizabeth. In other words, they were imitating her so they too could also do the correct dance moves.
This scripture from 1 Timothy speaks about setting an example for the believers. The scripture continues by sharing how to set that example; some of these examples include through, speech, love, and faith. The scripture also talks about not looking down on anyone while you’re young. I think about how Elizabeth was setting an example on the stage at school for other students. She was helping some students by the way she danced on the stage. It reminded me to think about how we, as disciples, should strive to live lives that also set an example for others. Paul encourages his audience to imitate him as he imitates Christ. As we go through this day, let us reflect upon how we strive to reflect Christ through our words and actions. Let us also think
about how others may be watching us and encouraged by us by the way we choose to live.
Let us live by example…..the example of Christ.
