Pianist/Organist

Thank you for your interest! The Staff-Parish Relations Committee at the church is seeking to hire a part-time organist & pianist to join our staff.


The ideal candidate will possess a passion for music and have a commitment to enhancing the worship experience through their musical gifts.

Primary Requirements:

  •        The ideal candidate should be experienced as an organist or pianist, preferably within a church setting.
  •        Candidate should have the ability to read sheet music fluently and adapt arrangements if necessary.
  •        Candidate should have a familiarity with church services, The United Methodist Hymnal, and other                            traditional hymns that would fit into the context of a worship service.
  •        While the hope is to find an organist and pianist, candidates who are not able to play the organ will still be              considered.
  •        Candidate should have the ability to work in collaboration with the pastor and others.
  •        A willingness to improvise in certain circumstances should they arise.
  •        The church organist/pianist reports to the pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee, including an annual        review and evaluation.

Primary Responsibilities would include:

  •        Providing music for 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday mornings year-round. (Includes, but is not limited to              congregational hymns, prelude, offertory, doxology, postlude, and communion music.)
  •        Providing music for other special services throughout the year. (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday,         Longest Night Service [Dec.], and Christmas Eve.)
  •        Providing piano accompaniment for parishioners and others who are singing special music during worship          services.
  •        Working alongside of the pastor in planning and selecting certain music for church services.

Flexibility:

  •        During the week, the organist/pianist may use the sanctuary to rehearse but also has the option of rehearsing     at home or another location if it is more convenient.

Compensation:

  •        Compensation will be negotiable.
  •        The Staff-Parish Relations Committee will strive to make sure compensation is fair and consistent with the            candidate’s education, experience, and skill level.
